    Research Framework

Begin by defining your Research Framework:

    1. Topic/Question(s): What do you already know? What do you need to find out to contextualize your topic to make an informed proposal for social change?

    2. Sources: Which types of sources you would like to identify (or are you required to use) and read:

    Types of Sources:Research Tool:
    Books Harvest Catalog
Journal, Magazine, Newspaper Articles Subscription Database(s)
Websites (e.g. organizations, NGOs, government reports) Commercial Search Engine(s)

    3. Credibility: Not all sources are created equal. Do your sources strengthen your proposal? Keep these criteria in mind:

    • Author:  Who produced the information? What can you find about the author’s credentials?
    • Publication Type:  Where was the item published? Essays in scholarly books and articles in peer-reviewed journals are written by experts and have undergone rigorous scrutiny and editing prior to publication.
    • Accuracy:  Does the author cite references to support his/her thesis? Are the references also from scholarly and credible sources?
    • Timeframe: When was the source published? Is the information still relevant?
