Librarians can help students with information needs.  Librarians can answer subject-specific, detailed or complex research questions.  Each subject area has a librarian who is available to help in person, by email, or by phone and by appointment for one-on-one consultations.

UC Davis Libraries

  • Shields Library is the largest and is in the center of the campus. Areas supported are general, arts, humanities, and social sciences disciplines; and biological, agricultural and environmental sciences.
  • Physical Sciences and Engineering Library is also located in the center of campus and serves students in engineering, physcial sciences, computer sciences. 
  • Carlson Health Sciences Library is on the western edge of the campus and serves health and veterinary sciences. 
  • Blaisdell Medical Library is at the Medical Center in Sacramento and serves the medical campus and students. 
  • Law Library is in the King Hall Law school and is administered by the Law School. It is open to undergraduates.

There are jobs for students in the libraries!  The libraries employ student assistants each quarter.  Find out about student jobs through the library's job link.

7 The library licenses thousands of academic and scholarly journals, databases, and reference sources online and available virtually all the time.  Librarians develop Subject Guides with suggested resources for each discipline.  We don't use just google!

UC-eLinks is the UC's link between seeing a citation for an article in a database and actually getting to read it.  It also provides an easy way to request journal articles or books from other campuses.  UC-eLinks

There are close to 10 million items students have access to including books, journals, music, dvds, maps, etc. in print and digital formats.  Students can request books or journal articles from other University of California libraries, or from other libraries nationwide through Interlibrary Loan.

Students can get online help with library information 24/7 using the chat service.

The Libraries have books.  No, everything isn't online!  The libraries have over 4 million volumes, but we have a lot more than books - government documents, muscial scores, maps, photos and archives.  Plus the ebooks, ejournals, and subscription databases.  Pile of BooksThe Harvest Catalog is the local book catalog at UC Davis. 

2 There is a 24 hour study room.  The 24 hour study room is a secure area open only to students who gain access with their ID cards.
