Search for Ebooks

Some ebook titles are available free online, but most are accessible through subscriptions only. See below for an overview of strategies to search for ebooks:

1. Harvest UC Davis Catalog

This is the library catalog for the UC Davis University Library. It includes books in both print and electronic format. The largest number of ebooks are on Science-related topics, but an increasing number of Social Science and Humanities ebooks are also available. Keep in mind that many important and useful books in the library are available in print format only.

2. Vendors/Subscribed Collections

The University Library subscribes to a number of ebook collections. Individual ebook titles are included in the Harvest UC Davis Catalog, but they can also be searched separately through the vendor/publisher's interface. Examples of current subscriptions include Wiley, Springer, CAB, Ebrary and EBSCO.

3. Collections by Discipline

Librarian Subject Specialists at UC Davis have compiled lists of ebooks and ebook search tools useful for academic research in the Health Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering and Humanities & Social Sciences.

For a more extensive listing of discipline-specific resources, consult our Subject Guides.

4. Free Ebook Collections

There are also a number of ebooks that are viewable online at no cost. These books are usually out of copyright (written prior to 1923) or published by entities that do not copyright their books, e.g. governmental organizations.
