Here's How We Can Help

The University Library provides research and instructional services in the Arts, Languages and Literatures, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Cultural Studies and more for all members of the University community.

The University Library also maintains a comprehensive reference collection (in hard copy and electronic formats) that serves as a gateway to both general and subject-specific humanities and social science research topics. The print collection located near our Consultation Desk on the second floor of the Peter J. Shields Library consists of over 40,000 volumes.  It is a great place to begin your work.

Whatever the size and scope of your project, our Research Support Librarians can help you get the most out of this collection and the other collections, services and resources provided by University Library.

Research Appointments and Librarian Office Hours:

We are available to help with research projects. We can meet with individuals or with groups for consultations to help make the best use of library resources.  We can schedule anything from one-time meetings to sustained research alliances spanning the duration of the project.  Tell us what you are working on, so we can make sure the library is serving your needs.  Contact a Librarian Subject Specialist to make an appointment.

    New Acquisitions and Book Requests:

The Library works hard to provide the latest information to support the University's research and instruction. We are interested in hearing about advances and new directions in your fields of study. If you would like the Library to purchase an item important for research or instruction, please contact your Subject Specialist.

Library Research Classes, Orientations, and Tours:

We offer classes and tours throughout the year geared to introduce students to library research. These classes are taught on a regular schedule and may also be offered on request. We can develop a session to meet the specific needs of a class or group.  Contact your Subject Specialist to find out how we can help jump-start your students’ research projects. We offer these classes in the library or in your classroom.
